OECD was established in 1961, and includes 34 member states. OECD aims to assist states to increase their economic growth, employment rates and the trading volume between member and non-member states. Egypt joined OECD as a permanent observer at the ad hoc committees of the Organization in 2007.
OECD plays an important role in the ICT sector service through the preparation of studies and research that help governments in comparing different policy experiences and find solutions to common problems. This is in addition to its role in coordinating the domestic and international policies of the countries and identifying good practices.
MCIT joined OECD in 2008, representing Egypt in the Committee for Information and Communication and Computer Policy which is known now as the Committee on Digital Economy Policy (CDEP).
